Sporting event preparation

Sports event preparation in Guildford

When training for any sporting event, whether it is a marathon, a bike ride or a tennis match, there are multiple areas that you need to consider in order to achieve your best performance. These include diet and nutrition, a training schedule and kitting yourself out with the best and most appropriate clothing and equipment. In addition to these is the extremely important body maintenance and preparation. This means making sure that your body and your muscles are able to function at their best when you’re using them and recover quickly when you’re not and our team of sports therapists are experts at helping you to achieve this.

Who needs help with sporting event preparation?

This depends on your existing level of fitness: if you are used to running marathons you won’t require help preparing for a 5km walk; but if you have never walked that far before you would benefit from sports massage and treatment to get you to that level. Typically sporting event preparation treatment is used by people preparing for a race (10km, half marathon or marathon) or bike ride, or preparing to step up a gear and make improvements in their game whether that is tennis, squash or badminton; football, rugby or netball, or any other sport.

What are the benefits of using sports massage to prepare for an event?

Maintaining your body whilst training for an event is essential in reducing the risks of injury and increasing the chances reaching your best performance.  Minimising your risk of injury is the first and biggest benefit of using sports massage to prepare.

  • increase flexibility
  • increase relaxation
  • improve connective tissue healing
  • decrease muscle tension
  • decrease muscle stiffness and pain
  • prevent injuries
  • improve performance
  • maintain full muscle health and associated performance
  • improve posture
  • improve sleep
  • increase sense of well-being

Receiving sports massages regularly can help prevent a gradual build up of tension within the body. If undetected these muscle imbalances may limit movement and strength and, if left untreated, these imbalances can cause chronic pain to muscles and joints in the surrounding areas. Our therapists use sports massage to detect tany abnormalities or variations in the soft tissue before complications develop which helps to maintain the body’s top physical state.

What our patients say...

Gemma is brilliant! Very knowledgeable, advises on strengthening exercises and really feel much better after my appointment. See her regularly for a historic neck/shoulder problem and would definitely recommend her.

Samantha

Having just started to try and get fit - this resulted in some injuries to calves, to hip-flexes, and not insignificant discomfort. Gemma was excellent in identifying the issues, and treating the problems. A friendly, personal touch combined with excellent treatment.
